Someone else hit your car.
You shouldn't be without one.

If the other driver was at fault, the cost of your repair and the cost of the weeks you spend without your car are the same debt, and it isn't yours. We recover both from their insurer and put you in a car for the whole repair. No claim on your policy. No excess.

Answered day or night. Melbourne and across Victoria.

The question nobody puts to you

After a crash, the conversation turns to the damaged car. Who will fix it, where it goes, how long it takes.

But you still have to get to work on Tuesday.

Most people end up answering that part themselves, and badly. They go without. They borrow a car. They put a hire car on a credit card and hope to claim it back later. Or they lodge on their own policy, pay the excess, and use whatever hire car cover they bought, if they bought any. That cover is usually capped at a set number of days, whether or not the repair is finished.

It is one debt, and it is not yours

The person who damaged your car is responsible for putting it right. Victorian Legal Aid puts it plainly: “If someone causes a crash, they are responsible for any damage they cause.”

That covers the repair. It also covers the cost of a car to drive while yours is off the road. Both come from the same accident, and you do not have to go through your own insurer to recover either.

What we do about it

We handle the claim against the at-fault driver's insurer, and arrange a replacement vehicle while your car is being repaired. You keep it for as long as the repair takes, rather than for a capped number of days. It is in the class you normally drive, and it is delivered to you.

You do not pay an excess and you do not lodge a claim on your own policy. Their insurer is billed for the repair, the replacement car and our work.

What usually stops people, and whether it should

“I only have third party cover.” Third party cover pays for damage you cause to other people. It does nothing for your own car, and it has no bearing on recovering from the driver who hit you.

“It's a work vehicle.” Businesses, fleets and rideshare drivers are included, and so are cars you do not own.

“I've already told my insurer.” Call us anyway. What matters is how the claim is being handled now, and who the repair and the car are being recovered from.

“How long will I have the car?” For the repair. We will not put a number on your repair before anyone has looked at it, and you should be wary of anyone who does.

A car for the whole repair, at no cost to you.

For the repair, not for ten days.

A policy's hire car benefit usually stops on a set day whether or not your car is ready. This one runs as long as the repair does.

Who this is for

  • The other driver was at fault
  • The accident happened in Victoria
  • You live in metropolitan Melbourne

Insured or not. Businesses, rideshare drivers and cars you don't own included.

The car you actually drive.

In the class you normally drive, delivered to you. If you drive a ute for work, you don't get handed a hatchback.

Third party only, or uninsured? Still works.

The recovery is against the driver who hit you, not against your own policy. What cover you hold doesn't decide it.

  • $0excess, and no claim on your policy

The questions people ask before they call.

If yours isn't here, ring and ask it. We would rather tell you where you stand than have you guess.

Who pays for the replacement car?

The at-fault driver's insurer. The repair, the replacement car and our work are all billed to them, which is why there is no excess for you and no claim on your own policy.

Do I need comprehensive insurance?

No. You can be insured or uninsured. The recovery is made against the driver who caused the damage, not against your own policy, so what cover you hold does not decide whether we can help.

How long do I keep the car?

For as long as the repair takes, rather than for a capped number of days. That is the difference people notice most: a policy's hire car benefit usually stops on a set day whether or not your car is ready.

What car do I get?

One in the class you normally drive, delivered to you. If you drive a ute for work, you are not handed a hatchback.

What if I only have third party cover?

Third party cover pays for damage you cause to other people. It does nothing for your own car when somebody hits you, and it has no bearing on recovering from the driver who did. Many of the people we help have third party cover or none at all.

Is this legal, and is it normal?

Yes to both. When someone damages your car, they are responsible for the repair and for the time you are without it. Your own insurer uses the same rule every day when it recovers from the other driver's insurer. We do it for you directly, so you skip the excess and the claim on your policy.

My repairer is already dealing with the insurer.

You can still come to us for the car. Plenty of people do exactly that.
