Someone else hit your car.
Why are you claiming on your insurance?

Lodging on your own policy costs you the excess, puts a claim on your record and hands the repairer choice to your insurer. If the other driver was at fault, none of that has to happen. We recover the repair from their insurer instead.

Two ways to get the same car fixed

Claiming on your own policy is the path everyone knows. You pay the excess, the claim goes on your record, and your insurer chooses a repairer from its network.

The other path is older and more direct. The person who damaged your car pays to put it right. Victorian Legal Aid puts it plainly: “If someone causes a crash, they are responsible for any damage they cause.”

The car, the damage and the repair are the same. What changes is who pays the cost and who makes the decisions.

The repair is their cost, not your claim.

Who this is for

  • The other driver was at fault
  • The accident happened in Victoria
  • You live in metropolitan Melbourne

Insured or not. Businesses, rideshare drivers and cars you don't own included.

No excess, because it isn't your claim.

An excess is what your policy charges you to use it. Recovering from the driver who hit you doesn't use it.

Repaired to manufacturer standards.

By repairers major insurers already use, working for you rather than for the insurer paying.

No claim on your record.

Your renewal is priced on your claims history. This never joins it.

What changes when the other driver's insurer pays

You do not pay an excess. An excess belongs to your policy, and you are not using it.

There is no claim on your record because you have not made one.

The choice of repairer is yours again. The insurer paying is not your insurer, so its panel is not automatically your panel.

We handle the claim against them, put liability to them in writing, and keep a dated record of every reply. While your car is being repaired, you have a replacement to drive.

The questions people ask before they call.

If yours isn't here, ring and ask it. We would rather tell you where you stand than have you guess.

Do I have to use my insurer's repairer?

If you are claiming on your own policy, that is between you and your insurer. If the repair is being recovered from the driver who hit you, their insurer's panel is not automatically your choice either. Ask for the arrangement in writing before the car goes in.

Will this put a claim on my record?

No. You are not making a claim on your own policy, so there is nothing to record against it.

Do I pay an excess?

No. An excess is what your own policy charges you to use it, and this does not use it.

What if I have already lodged with my insurer?

Call us anyway. What matters is how the claim is being handled now and who the repair is being recovered from.

How do you get paid?

Our fee goes to the at-fault driver's insurer along with the repair and the replacement car. Not to you.

What if I was partly at fault?

Then it depends on the facts, and we will tell you that plainly rather than take the file and work it out later.
